Installation & Safety

Correct installation, regular inspection and appropriate use are essential for the safe enjoyment of your Swingstra product. Please review this information before installing or using your swing.

Important

The supporting structure and all attachment points must be suitable for the intended installation and the forces generated during use. If you are uncertain whether a beam, structure, fixing location or installation method is suitable, seek advice from an appropriately qualified professional before installing or using the swing.

Supporting Structure

A swing creates moving and dynamic forces, not simply the stationary weight of the swing and its users. The supporting beam or structure must therefore be structurally suitable for the intended use and installation method.

Do not assume that a beam, pergola, patio, verandah or other structure is suitable based only on its appearance or dimensions.

Hanging & Attachment Points

Use appropriate hanging hardware and attachment methods for the supporting structure. All attachment points should be secure, correctly positioned and installed in accordance with the requirements of the hardware and supporting structure.

Do not attach a swing to decorative, damaged, deteriorated or otherwise unsuitable structural elements.

Chains, Quick Links & Eye Bolts

Before use, check that the chains are correctly positioned and that quick links, eye bolts and other connection components are properly fitted and secure. Connections should not be left partially open or loose.

Do not use suspension components that are visibly damaged, excessively worn, significantly deformed or otherwise appear unsuitable for continued use.

Positioning the Swing

Install the swing in a location that provides appropriate clearance around its expected movement. Consider nearby walls, posts, furniture, landscaping, pathways and other objects that could create a collision, trapping or impact hazard during use.

Before First Use

Before using the swing for the first time, inspect the complete installation. Check the supporting structure, attachment points, eye bolts, quick links, chains, timber seat and all connections. Confirm that the swing hangs securely and that there is suitable clearance for its movement.

Regular Inspection

Inspect the swing and installation regularly and after any event that may have affected the supporting structure or suspension system. Check for loose connections, deterioration, damage, unusual movement, excessive wear or changes to the supporting structure.

Outdoor exposure and normal use can affect timber, finishes, hardware and supporting structures over time, so ongoing inspection and maintenance are important.

Safe Use

Use the swing in a controlled manner and for its intended purpose. Avoid excessive swinging, jumping onto or from the swing, deliberate shock loading, misuse or other activity that may place abnormal forces on the swing, suspension system or supporting structure.

When to Stop Using the Swing

Stop using the swing if you notice damage, loosening, unusual movement, significant deterioration, deformation, instability or any other condition that may affect safe use. Do not resume use until the cause has been identified and appropriately addressed.

Installation by Others

Where installation is not performed by Swingstra, the customer is responsible for ensuring that the supporting structure, attachment method and installation are appropriate for the product and location.

If there is any uncertainty about structural suitability or installation, seek advice from an appropriately qualified professional.
